Building the Vision
“I thought they would not speak,
instead I was unable to stop them
talking” said one of the group
leaders at the first Building the
Vision evening where questions were
asked about Growing in Christ.
By the time this magazine has become
available the second of the three
meetings will have taken place where
we will have explored our becoming
Eucharistic People.
On Monday 16th June we look at our
abilities for Witnessing and
Communicating. All three meetings are
an essential tool for us at St
Gabriel’s as we grapple to see who we
are and where we are going.
As has been said, this is a exercise,
but not a fruitless or pointless one.
For
the responses from the many who
attended have already been noted and
acted upon. This is very much an
activity in growth and a movement to
forge greater links with each other
and the local community.
The natural progression of these three
meetings will be the feedback
session on Monday 7th of July where
the responses from all the meetings
will be open to the members of the
Parochial Church Council and every
member of the congregation.
A copy of the report will be sent to
the Archdeacon, who is watching
carefully to our responses and our
findings, together with the local Area
Dean’s working party and the Bishop.
Our responses and the corresponding
action plan are very important, hence
I
am asking you again to make every
conceivable effort to attend the two
meetings that remain.
Please do use the time that remains
before the next meeting to place the
future life of the parish into the
hands of God through prayer and active
thought. Again the words of the
Archdeacon ring out as a challenge -
what
difference to the life of St Gabriel’s
is made by you being a member?
Everyone one has to do their bit to
ensure the future of St Gabriel’s- and
that bit has to be done by everyone!

Christian Aid Week already”
said one of our members of the
congregation when faced with two tables
of Christian Material. Well yes seems it
has come around early but that might be
because Easter has been exceptionally
early this year!
For St Gabriel’s this is our major event
for charitable and missionary giving.
A chance to chat on people’s doorsteps
and in the street. A chance to be a
visible face of the church in the
community.
We do not do this alone but are backed
up by a national advertising campaign
with adverts on the telly and large bill
boards.
We need your help in delivering and
collecting the envelopes. This year it
seems there is an even greater need as
the cost of food soars. We might
grumble at the extra increase in the
cost of our food bill, but we do not
have to make a choice between paying for
education or food for our children.
Clean water is also a commodity that we
take for granted. Our collection will
also help those in need of a safe and
regular supply of water.
A collection kit is now available for
you in the church. please be generous
with your time.
Stewardship Sunday
1st June
As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich
putting their gifts into the temple
treasury. He also saw a poor widow put
in two very small copper coins. "I
tell
you the truth," he said, "this poor
widow has put in more than all the
others.
All these people gave their gifts out
of their wealth; but she out of her
poverty put in all she had to live
on." Luke 21:1-4
In May we look again at our
stewardship of God’s creation and in
particular
our financial giving to his work and
service. From Sunday 11th Standing
Order forms, pledge forms and gift aid
forms are available from Roy
Holloway. Please form an orderly
queue...
