Jonathan, one of our young people writes:

On Sunday six times a year , from 7pm, we hold a Mass at St. Gabriel’s specifically for young people (no parents allowed!) lasting around an hour or so (depending on how competitive we get during the games and how many rematches are demanded!).

The Mass is organised by a group of us teenagers (what must Father Keith be thinking allowing that?) who choose the theme for the Mass and what’s going to go on during it, with it always being led by one of us (hence it being a Youth Mass for the young people by the young people).

A typical Youth Mass will start off and end with a game, with an extra one (or two) in the middle of the programme somewhere. Games vary from Duster Hockey, to the Flour Game (don’t breathe in!), the Teapot Game, Wink Murder and loads more (including one or two water fights in the summer months – everyone against Father Keith!). There will be an interactive “serious bit” led by Father Keith based around that month’s mass’ theme, and always a Eucharist. After so much excitement there’s the traditional tuck shop at the end to wind down and catch up with friends.

If you’re a young person and like the sound of this, then just come along and you’ll be made most welcome – I can promise you you’ll really enjoy it and it would be fantastic to see more new faces! Dates of future Youth Masses can be found on the website.
